The meaning of the Wiwitan Tama Taon tradition in Bilok Petung Village, Sembalun District

A Heremeneutic Analysis Based on Hans-Georg Gadamer Perspective

Abstrak

The wiwitan tama taon tradition is a ritual of thanksgiving and thanksgiving at the beginning of the year that marks the start of farming activities that coincide with the rainy season. This tradition is a form of expression of gratitude of the Bilok Petung community for the natural products both in terms of agriculture and plantations, which have been obtained throughout the year. This study aims to describe the meaning of the procession and presentation of the wiwitan tama taon tradition in Bilok Petung Village, Sembalun District. This type of research is qualitative with data collection methods through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation. The data studied are processions and presentations in the wiwitan tama taon tradition which are analyzed using Hans Georg Gadamer's Hermeneutics theory, namely historical hermeneutics, prejudice, dialectics, and linguistics. The results of the study indicate that the meaning of processions such as menyilak, prayer, enjoying offerings, and shaking hands in the wiwitan tama taon tradition represents respect and togetherness in the ritual implementation, while the meaning of offerings such as klepon 'male seed and female eye', serabi 'female aspect and male ear', white porridge 'male', and red porridge 'female' are interpreted as symbols of beauty, simplicity, and balance as well as expressions of gratitude of the Bilok Petung community.
